Natural gas is predominantly methane and is the same fuel used by central heating boilers and cookers in the UK. It is a clean burning fuel, with lower levels of pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions than conventional mineral fuels.
Fleets can benefit from the substantial total cost of ownership savings by switching from diesel vehicles to natural gas. London is introducing its Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in April 2019, and several other UK cities are planning to introduce a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) to help improve air quality. All new gas-powered vehicles meet or exceed Euro VI/6 emissions standards and therefore comply with ULEZ and CAZ requirements.

Available Vehicles The market for gas vehicles has improved significantly, with products available in all segments. Most manufacturers now offer dedicated gas rather than dual fuel vehicles, reflecting the improvements in engine technology and availability of refuelling infrastructure. If you think gas vehicles might be right for your fleet, the next step is to organise a vehicle trial. It should be possible to borrow a demonstrator vehicle and potentially have a temporary refuelling station set up at your depot.
